• Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER is 170 kms. by road from Chennai.
• JIPMER has been declared as an “Institution of National Importance” by an Act of Parliament, JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was Gazette notified on 14-7- 2008 to enforce this Act. Prior to this, the Institute was functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
• The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc., under the clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act. Such Degrees / Diploma, etc., shall be deemed to be included in the schedules to the respective Acts governing Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of India, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India.
• Admission to M.B.B.S. Course for 150 seats is through an Entrance Examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers across India once a year.
• JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super Specialty Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with bed strength of 2559 and a Nursing College. M.B.B.S., B.Sc., M.Sc., M.D., M.S, Degree Courses are offered in 37 disciplines. Super Specialty departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Pediatric Critical Care, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Hematology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology, Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M./ M.Ch. Courses. Full-time Ph.D. Programs are available in eight disciplines as on date. Master of Public Health (30 seats) Post Basic Diploma Courses in Nursing (50 Seats in five disciplines) were started in January 2014.
• JIPMER aims to provide high quality learning environment for those undertaking taught and research degrees awarded by JIPMER in the Faculty of Medicine. Teaching and Training for M.B.B.S. Degree at JIPMER is focused on health improvement, disease prevention and cure as well as fundamental understanding. Course Code

Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed M.D. / DNB Degree from any University recognized as equivalent there to by the Medical Council of India.

Note: Number and distribution of seats are subject to variation based on any periodic directives from Competent Authority / Court Judgments and pending Court cases.

Computer Based Test / online examination will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in the concerned specialty and related fields.

• There shall be only one paper of 90 minutes duration consisting of 100 Multiple Choice Questions.
• All questions will be of one best / correct response type having four alternatives.
• More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and negative mark will be given.
• Each answer with correct response shall be awarded Four Marks.
• ZERO mark will be given for the questions not answered.
• Negative marks will be given for incorrect response. For every incorrect response, ONE mark will be deducted.
• The response of the candidate for a question(s), on click of “submit button” before closing of Examination shall be considered as the response chosen by the candidate or in other words, “If a question is answered and marked for review, your answer for that question will be considered in the evaluation”

• (a) FOR D.M. COURSE: the Computer Based Test (CBT) / online examination will consist of 100 MCQs in the concerned specialty and related fields. The duration of the examination will be 1½ hours.
  (b) FOR M.Ch. COURSE: the Computer Based Test (CBT) / online examination will consist of 100 MCQs in the concerned specialty and related fields. The duration of the examination will be 1½ hours.
• All Questions will be of one best / correct response type having four alternatives.
• Each answer with correct response shall be awarded four marks.
• More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response.
• Negative marks will be given for incorrect responses marked correct.
• For every incorrect response marked as correct 1 mark will be deducted.
• Minimum cut-off shall be 50th percentile for admission.
• Questions that are answered and “Marked for Review” will be considered as ANSWERED.11
• Tie Break :
  In case of two or more candidates securing equal marks in the Entrance Examination,
  their inter se merit shall be determined as follows:
  
  • Candidate scoring less negative marks to be ranked higher.
  • If the tie is still not broken, then a candidate senior in age will be ranked higher.

• The candidate should acquaint himself / herself with all requirements with regard to filling up the application on-line.

List of Original Certificate to be Produced
The following original certificates should be submitted by the selected candidates at the time of joining along with attested copies (ONE SET).

• Degree of the qualifying examination / Provisional pass Certificate (Permitted only for those candidates who passed MD/MS/DNB in 2014.
• Age Certificate showing the date of birth (Birth Certificate or X Std. Certificate).
• Character and Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institute last studied.
• Residence Certificate issued by Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tahsildar / OCI Registration Certificate issued by the Competent Authority (applicable for OCI candidates).
• Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
• Migration Certificate from the University last studied.
• Permanent Medical Registration Certificate from Medical Council of India (or State Medical Council)
• Registration of Additional Medical qualification with M.C.I (for D.M./M.Ch.applicants).
• Four Passport size colour photographs identical with the photograph uploaded in the application.
• Original Hall Ticket with Seal marked by Exam Venue Invigilator on the day of examination.
• Downloaded copy of the provisional selection order of the Dean, JIPMER published in the JIPMER website.

If any of the original certificates mentioned above, have been issued in a language other than English, their English Translation, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer should be produced.

Please note…

• All students are required to appear for JIPMER Entrance Exam / counseling at their own cost.
• The final decision regarding Admission rests with the Director and the jurisdiction for any disputes will be Puducherry.
• Any attempt on the part of the candidate to influence directly or indirectly the admission procedures will be viewed seriously and lead to disqualification of the applicant.
• NO individual intimation will be sent to any candidates about selection of candidate and no correspondence on this subject will be entertained.
• In the matter of selection / admission, the decision of the Director of JIPMER will be final.
• All students admitted to D.M., M.Ch. Courses at JIPMER shall maintain good conduct, pay the requisite tuition fees and other charges by due dates, attend their classes / clinics regularly and abide by rules and regulations of the Institute. When the conduct and character of a student is not satisfactory or of suspicious nature, the Director reserves the right to make him/her vacate the hostel or to expel him/her from the Institute.

• Candidate will not be informed individually, through telephone, post etc

Note: The candidate is advised to read the Prospectus and Help Manual before starting online registration and ensure that no column is left blank. Request for rectification of any error committed in the application will not be considered. A new application has to be submitted with the prescribed fees. Refund of fees will not be considered under any circumstances.
